Charlie and David Murphy

Edgeworthstown, Co Longford

Tradition is being reborn on Charlie Murphy’s family farm in Co Longford, where by raising Angus to the right standards, he is sustaining the breed and Irish beef along with a future in farming for his son David.

Father and son Charlie and David Murphy farm in partnership in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, where their family has farmed since 1930. They farm Angus animals, along with sheep, with a typical day for them starting at 7am. Charlie values the outdoor life that farming provides and he believes in the importance of maintaining farming as a family tradition. He says:

What I really love about farming is the variety and the outdoor life, and when you get the weather right it can’t be beaten. No two days are the same, and you are always moving from job to job and from season to season.

For Charlie, it’s very important for the future of rural Ireland that the tradition of family farms is passed through the generations.
