At today’s National Ploughing Championships, RTÉ Broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan met with five second-level school groups and presented them with the passports for the five Irish Angus Cross calves which they will today bring home with them to rear as part of a unique secondary schools’ competition.

At the heart of this success story are the primary producers of our food, our farming community. However, farming as a career choice is increasingly challenged by industries such as technology which are often seen as more attractive propositions for younger people.

Tim Dunne has been farming in Mitchelstown in North Cork for more than 40 years and believes that his choice of career is something of a calling or a vocation. According to Tim, a high level of care and respect, both for land and animals is required in order to produce the highest quality food for the consumer.
