Members Newsletter Winter 2020

Due to the cancellation of the National Ploughing Championships this autumn and the loss of the opportunity it provided us with to communicate with members, we have issued this newsletter. This will update you on our activities and the work that is being done to support and develop new and existing markets for Certified Irish Angus Beef for the benefit of our members.

Sustainability is very important to us at #CertifiedIrishAngus πŸƒ We encourage our members to adapt some or all of the following initiatives:

🌲 Planting trees - to provide shade and shelter for grazing animals
🏞️ Maintain Boglands - increases biodiversity and protects our land from flooding
🐝 Keep Bees - over one third of the food we eat relies on pollination
πŸƒ Hedgerows - biodiversity to attract wildlife and pollinators

In just one month, we will close applications for the 2022 Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition. The competition is open to all Transition Year students from rural and urban schools, with and without farming backgrounds. πŸ“£

It is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in a life-changing competition, but don’t just take our word for it - hear from this year’s winners, five girls from St. Aloysius College, Co. Cork, all of whom had no farming backgrounds before entering the competition! πŸ†

Last month we announced the six schools that made it to the next round of our #SchoolsCompetition and introduced them all to the calves they will rear for the next 18 months.

Today, meet Mya, Ella and Niamh from St. Louis' High School, Rathmines. The students may not have a background in agriculture, but they are eager to learn! πŸ’ͺ
